EVOLVING WOMEN’S CITYWEAR
FOR THE RIDE

x

Bringing together cycling heritage , iconic design and engineering sensibilities from Brompton , with contemporary refinement in women’s outerwear from Protected Species

Performance versatility on and off the bike

Originating from the need for a cycle jacket to deliver on both the aesthetic and performance requirements demanded by a woman, Brompton & Protected Species have come together to launch a highly versatile collection of weather protective outwear in the form of two styles; The Parka and The city rider.

Developed using a technical four-way stretch waterproof fabric, both styles incorporate the visibility and freedom of movement expected for a safe ride through the city, but uniquely, when the destination is reached, these cycling features simply tuck away delivering a stye-led waterproof jacket suitable for all the other activities in a woman’s day – without ever compromising on style.

Crafted for the female rider

The design, cut, and fit matter when it comes to creating high performance weatherproof protection, and the same applies to the development of women’s specific outerwear. Protected Species’ roots in creating women’s style-led performance wear fused with Brompton’s unique understanding of the urban cyclist, has created a collection which blends seamlessly into a woman’s everyday wardrobe – beautifully engineered for both the ride, and the days’ activities when the destination has been reached.

About our manufacture

Produced in a small boutique factory owned and managed by Carrie, the product development has a very close female eye right at the source of manufacture. Her team are her close friends and family, and the use of high tech machinery can be seen in the laser cut and heat welding features on both styles in this collection. Manufacturing is slow and considered, favouring quality and creativity over speed and high quantity.

Before the factory, the Mill. The fabric mill used for this collection is managed by Greta, a specialist in stretch waterproof technology. Her mill is Oeko tex compliant which means every product is tested to ensure they are free from harmful chemicals and safe to wear. It is also blue sign certified assuring stringent air, water and pollution controls are in place, and in addition to this, the fabric mill itself publicly declares their own carbon footprint.

Caring for your jacket

Our outerwear has been designed and developed to stand the test time, and comes with a no fuss 2-year waterproof performance guarantee – just follow the below guidelines to keep your jacket looking and performing it’s best for many years to come

– Completely safe to wash at 30°C

– Tie drawstrings together to avoid catching in the washing machine

– Hang out to dry after washing (no ironing should be required)

– If required, ensure to use only a low, one dot, setting when ironing.

All our products use an incredibly thin high-performance waterproof, yet breathable, layer welded to the back side of the fabric to ensure waterproofing. In addition, the surface of the fabric is also treated with a highly durable water-resistant finish which is used to bead water away from the outer surface of your jacket avoiding the jacket feeling soggy or heavy in torrential down pours.

It is essential, after 10 washes, to reproof your jacket using products such as: NIKWAX® TX Direct Wash-In, or GRANGER’S performance repel (both widely available). This will revitalise the water resistance on the fabric surface, which as with all waterproof outerwear, does fade over time as a result of washing and general wear. Don’t worry, your jacket will still be waterproof, but reproofing will keep you feeling comfortable at all times.
