Summer Staycation

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Our resident blogger Helen Wilson Beevers on holidaying in the UK (and you always need a raincoat!)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]This summer my family and I are heading an hour north and having a Northumberland staycation. With our new puppy addition, we decided a UK break would be best and an excellent excuse to explore our home county.

Booked into a cottage in beautiful Holy Island, I can’t wait to fill the car with treats and decamp for a week. There’s something so lovely about taking away the major travel element and just keeping things close to home.

Simplifying summer, staycations remain a travel trend across social media too. There are so many amazing places to venture in the UK, with our glorious coastline, scenic countryside and cultural city hotspots galore.

A couple of years ago, we did similar and had a week in Craster, Northumberland. This picturesque seaside town is not far from where we live, but I turned my phone off for the entire time and it truly felt like a refreshing break. To be honest, this was one of my favourite holidays ever. We ate ice lollies on the pier, felt the calming waves lap at our toes and woke up to sea air every day.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”11778″ img_size=”300×360″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Other places on the staycation wanderlust list include: the expansive west coast of Scotland, North Yorkshire, Cornwall, the Lake District, Tenby in Wales and the Cotswolds, to name just a few. From coast to country, you can find absolutely everything you need by staying within the UK. Tourism here is soaring, and 2018 sees this set to continue.

Removing airport and luggage struggles, saving money on flights and embracing the chance to just get in your car and go, there’s a lot to be said about a staycation. You can snap up an Airbnb, self catering place or indulge in some hotel luxury.

There feels something wholesome about fish and chips on the beach, cosying up against any unpredictable elements. Yes, you need a few extra jumpers here to what you would do abroad, yet if you’re anything like me, I always love a layer.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”11776″ img_size=”360×240″ alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]A minimalist summer mirroring Protected Species style, my Commuter comes everywhere. Plus, now we have Ziggy, I appreciate the fact that all doggy accessories can fit into those spacious pockets. Free to roam without a bag, handsfree life has never been so important. I tend to have a child in one hand and dog lead in the other.

Ziggy has changed our lives so much and as expected, the house is fairly chaotic. But our hearts are happy and I spend a lot more time outside, escaping day-to-day stresses and constantly seeking new places to explore.

It’s safe to say that we can get so swept up in daily tasks and responsibilities that simple pleasures are forgotten. Our lives are constant and it often feels impossible to switch off. Sometimes you just need to eliminate the fuss and strip it all back. To me, that’s what a summer staycation is all about.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row”][vc_column][ultimate_heading main_heading=”SHOP” main_heading_color=”#c6b9ac” main_heading_margin=”margin-bottom:20px;”][/ultimate_heading]
