I received my City Walker (in black) in the mail this week! The jacket is beautiful, the quality is top notch and cant wait to wear it, especially during my upcoming trip to Europe. Also, the customer service is AMAZING! Anne was beyond helpful…from assisting with the shipping to the US to following up to make sure I received the jacket. Truly the best customer service!!!

  2. Rhoda

After trying many different jackets (thanks for your patience Anne) I settled on the city walker in black. I needed a jacket to take me from Hebridean beach to city gallery and that’s exactly what this is. Stylish and tough enough for Scottish weather, I’ve been looking for one of these my whole adult life. The rain rolls off and when you don’t need it, you can stuff it in your bag. Now I feel the need to get every lady I know on to these beautiful jackets.

  3. Diane Wilson

Love this jacket. Wore it nearly non-stop through to winter and lots of people commented on it. Great for walks, saw me through school sports day (always inclement in west of Scotland) and smart enough for work! Feels so soft, looks great and yet completely practical, a great investment.

  4. Trish

This company was mentioned during an online discussion so I was just supposed to look at the jackets. The City Walker caught my attention and the reviews persuaded me that owning one was an investment. It arrived today and is lovely; not sending it back. The white is actually a warm cream colour and will be perfect for wearing with summer colours for warm but showery days. I am usually a size 12 so ordered 10-12 and it fits perfectly on me.

  5. TRICIA

I love it. It’s just arrived this morning so I haven’t had a chance to try it out, but frankly I don’t care. I’ve tried it on and it looks amazing. Plus I know that when I take it to wet blustery Cape Town next week, it’s going to be the perfect top layer, stylish but practical. And the team were amazing. I initially ordered the wrong size, realised in a panic when it arrived and hastily asked them to send me a replacement in time for my trip. Incredible service. Thank you!

  6. Ally

I prefer to wear a waterproof jacket rather than carry an umbrella and, in the past, have had to sacrifice style for practicality. However, Protected Species jackets combine comfort, all weather protection and style. I’m a size 16-18 and these jackets are very flattering on the fuller figure. I’ve got a city walker and a parka and love them both. I love these jackets so much I’ve ordered a city walker for my mother and also one for my sister-in-law as Christmas presents

  7. Jule McLean

This is my fifth protected species purchase and I continue to love them. This is the 1st city walker as I thought I wasn’t the right height or body shape for it so stayed with Mac and Parka, how wrong I was. It is amazing, the fit is lovely, lots of great little details that really make it stand out. I went for the new Nightsky which is a lovely navy colour. The ease of ordering and the speed of delivery is very impressive and the team are so friendly and willing to help with any questions etc which makes the whole process a joy.

  8. Lakshmi

Thank you for designing the best jacket ever. This is truly the holy grail of waterproof jackets, and I’m glad I followed my instincts. The jacket fits perfectly, makes me stand apart from the herd ( you know what’s around in the market) and is waterproof! It is chic, now I can wear my formal clothes under it without wincing. I also admire the ‘all woman’ team who have put it all together. Outstanding job! Now I need a longer version in some other colour which will suit my Asian skin.

  9. Teresa Shering

I have worn this non-stop since I bought it! Its ultra -chic but the main thing is the versatility. I’ve worn it to work, going out, on walks, on holiday. – its a pleasure to wear and completely unlike any other waterproof, its just a great jacket that happens to be weather-bomb proof.

  10. Lynn Gatherer

A real pleasure to wear. I don’t think there is a jacket like this on the market. Fully technical and waterproof yet doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a heavy waterproof jacket. Great for packing on holiday as lightweight yet reliable. My favourite!!

  11. Claire

I already have the Parka (black) which I love but wanted something short for the ‘summer’. I have it in white which looks great with summer clothes and shorts! It’s 100% waterproof – I can guarantee that as I’ve been rained on a lot! Smart enough to wear to work but I’ve also worn it for walks too! I have had a lot of compliments from people who want a smart, stylish yet practical coat. I love it, can’t recommend it enough!

  12. Alex

I bought the white one specifically for a March trip to Rome. I wanted something that was more stylish than a traditional waterproof, but that still had all the performance. I LOVED the look of this when I saw it and the reality didn’t disappoint. In fact, I loved it so much when I got it that I bought the black one too! It was absolutely perfect in Rome – living up to its
name admirably. It’s lightweight, looks good zipped up or open, good at keeping the chill breezes off too – especially if the hood is stowed, the collar provides a great neck warmer! After two delightfully sunny, if chilly, days I was beginning to get worried that it wouldn’t rain I was so keen to get my hood out – luckily we had showers on our third day so I got to test the whole kit and it worked brilliantly. I felt so good not being encased in crackly brightly coloured Goretex while walking for miles around Rome. A brilliant purchase that I would recommend to anyone. The only criticism I have, and I am really going some to split this hair, is that the flap at the back quite often folds itself up when you first put the jacket on, but a quick sweep as you ‘adjust your dress’ sorts this out immediately. This is a lovely thing, with stylish details like the longer sleeves and the angles on the hems / zips. If you’re wavering at all just try it and see what you think, they’ll take it back if you don’t like it (that’s another thing, the people are great, you get personal emails, outstanding service!). I bet you won’t be disappointed!

  13. Abigail Haley

I get compliments every time I wear this jacket. It looks so stylish, yet it is so practical for the unpredictable ‘summer’ weather that we’re currently experiencing in the UK. I bought the white colour (more of a lovely warm cream). It is a bit of a magnet for marks, which I have simply lightly sponged away. I have yet to properly wash it, but the quality of the finish makes me think that this will be a breeze. I’m so happy that I have just placed an order for the commuter coat in black.

  14. Judy

I have one of each Protected Species style, and I can’t do without them. My city walker is great for in-between days, when I’m not sure about the weather. It looks beautiful, even when the sun is shining, and it give extra effort when it’s wet.

  15. Tess

I own two different colour ways in this jacket and have worn them for daily dog walks in spring, summer, autumn and winter! Light enough to stay cool in the Scottish summer sun/rain and warn/roomy enough to layer up during the worst Scottish snow storm (I was toasty warm with this coat and a thick jumper underneath during ‘the beast from the east’).

  16. Anna Muir

Love my city walker, wear it in all weathers. Doesn’t feel like a traditional waterproof but it’s saved me from many a West of Scotland downpour flawlessly. Customer service brilliant and friendly too, I bought 2 as wasn’t sure on size and then sent 1 back and they organised it all without a hitch. Highly recommended!

  17. Layla Johnson

    Amazing jacket, stylish and waterproof!

  18. Janet Nicolson

My new city walker arrived a couple of days ago and I absolutely love it. I finally decided on the white so it would be summery and go with everything but i had some worries about the colour as white can sometimes look a bit cheap….neednt have worried, this jacket is stunning, it looks so classic, the colour is fabulous kind of warm white. I now have a Mac and a parka as well so it’s maybe a bit excessive but i am a convert and just love the design and the whole look of these jackets. I have mountain jackets but don’t always want to look like i have just come off the hills. Now just need some rain. Practical and stylish…just perfect.

  19. Helen Cory

I ordered the City Walker and the Parker with a view to returning one and keeping the one that fit best…I have ended keeping both, they are so flattering, the material is fab, I may need to buy more!! Had a a very small issue so sent them an email, all sorted within an hour, that’s what I call excellent customer service..I can’t recommend this company highly enough!

  20. Ava Bracher

super nice jacket – maybe a bit short but extremly stylish! love it.

  21. Missey

I love this jacket! I adore the swingy fit and the craftsmanship is impeccable! I’m disappointed it got sunny out as soon as the coat arrived…I can’t wait to put it through it’s paces. I can attest to the wind protection and breathability! I would love to see these in navy. I may need to try out one of the longer styles next time but I really do love this style!

  22. Dharmista

I am out on site (in all weathers) for my work in both urban and rural environments and needed something lightweight, practical and stylish. I bought the City Walker (Atmosphere), which I have worn non-stop since it arrived and not just for work. I especially like the long sleeves, funnel neck and soft material.

  23. JANET

Love my City Walker and have had loads of compliments. Even my kids noticed I had a new jacket on and approved! Well made, very light and comfortable. And the rains just rolls off it.

  24. LORNA

I bought my City Walker in the Spring, with the plan for it to get me through any spring showers. The weather then became horrific (March/April 2018), but no bother, the jacket stood up to all of the torrential rain and freezing winds, I felt like the only person not complaining about the weather as I was getting so much use from my new purchase! The jacket is not only practical, it is beautiful to.wear. I smile everytime the opportunity arises to put it on. I simply LOVE it I um’d and ah’d for several months before taking the plunge and I haven’t regretted my purchse, just the time I wasted deciding whether or not to buy it. Now I’m hanging my nose over the new navy parka. I’m sure it will be equally lovely and fabulous quality. Thank you Protected Species

  25. JOHARRISON197

Received my City Walker in black this week after much deliberation and dithering. Absolutely love it; the material is gorgeous and the black is a true dark black. I was worried that it would be too short for me as I’m 5ft 9 but it looks just fine with the hem coming to my top hip. Very versatile and I can imagine wearing for work or casual. Linzie was a great help with sizing advice (I’m a standard size 12 and opted for the 10-12 in this style which fits just fine) and delivery was amazingly quick arriving the day after I ordered it. I don’t think this will be last purchase!

  26. ELIZABETHB

I ordered the City Walker after many months of coveting a Protected Species jacket and am thrilled with it. The material is so soft and it sits well on the body, draping nicely from the shoulder rather than making you look wide and bulky like other rain coats. The workmanship is also of very high quality – I look forward to wearing it out and testing it in the rain! I’m a size 14 and the 12-14 size fits well (thanks for the advice Linzie) – I wouldn’t necessarily get a big chunky sweater underneath but thin layers work fine.

A great jacket looks fantastic and keeps me 100% dry.

Originally bought a City Walker Dark Olive in UK 10-12 because I am a 10 above and 8 below; however it was way too baggy and had to size down to UK 6-8. Just for reference the fact I had to order the smaller size is maybe due to the fact that I am 5’3″ and with a petite frame. Customer service by email (Abigail) and over the phone (Rebecca) was outstanding! I absolutely recommend this item in your wardrobe: love the colour, the cut and the quality is superb! Thank you for designing this ????

I hesitated with my purchase, why? It’s gorgeous. So glad I ordered it now. Looks lovely on. Bought in blue 6/8 and fits perfect. Lovely quality material, hangs beautiful. If your hesitating like I did, don’t, you won’t regret it. Wish I could get it in the cream. Knowing I can buy it and try it and send it back for free is reassuring aswell.

I’ve had my eye on PS coats for a while and when I saw the collaboration with Brompton, it was a chance to see one in the flesh at the Brompton Junction store, particularly as I was looking for a new cycling jacket. Of the two styles, I preferred the shorter length but didn’t like the colour so, after some recommendations from Abigail, started looking at the original PS styles. The City Walker is almost identical to the Brompton jacket and is a perfect cycling jacket. It’s thin but warm and keeps out the wind and rain. It’s also, most importantly, breathable so I don’t arrive at my destination in a sweaty mess. I’ve also worn this out on a long walk and it’s perfect and very stylish with the straight cut, high collar and adjustable cuffs. I’m petite at 5’1″ and the size 6-8 is a great fit with room for a thin puffer for when it’s cold.

  36. Bessie

The City Walker is my go-to if I have a casual meetup in the city. It’s absolutely gorgeous and is made of such quality material. It really is such an amazing waterproof and I just love wearing it everywhere.

  37. Rebecca Batchelor

Oh my goodness I LOVE the City Walker! I was looking for a smart waterproof coat as my hiking jacket is more technical than smart for going out in. I have the PS mac from 5 years ago (still in excellent condition) but I wanted something shorter. I thought I’d need the size 10-12 as that’s what I tend to wear. Unfortunately that size is out of stock until next year but when I emailed for sizing advice it was suggested I try size 12. It fits me perfectly (I have long arms!) and so can fit a jumper underneath. It is very flattering and has been tested in heavy rain – stayed waterproof. I have worn it with jeans but it will also look good with more dressy skirt and heels. I bought the Atmosphere White as having had a colour and style consultation a couple of years ago, I knew the other 2 colours wouldn’t suit me. The colour is actually a warm putty – really nice. I just hope so can keep it clean! I won’t be hiking in it.
